Phoksundo Lake
Dolpo lies in the western part of Nepal and grew in prominence thanks to Peter Matthiessen’s book 'The Snow Leopard’. While the region opened up to trekkers in 1989, few trekkers have visited it over the years due to its remoteness. Its most alluring attraction is the Phoksundo Lake, which is sacred to Buddhist followers of the Bon religion who inhabit Dolpo. With forest sections and traditional Tibetan villages along the trail, the trek requires teams to camp as there are no lodges in the region. The eventual arrival at Phoksundo Lake is a worthy grand finale!
