Kolahoi Glacier

Kolahoi Glacier (4700 m) is a valley glacier in the north-western Himalayan range, situated 16 km south from Sonamarg and 26 km north from Pahalgam, in Jammu & Kashmir. This valley glacier is believed by the locals to be the 'Goddess of Light' for being the eternal source of water that powers major rivers such as Jhelum and Lidder. The Kolahoi Peak (5425 m) is the highest peak in Kashmir, and harbours one of the most revered glaciated zones of West Himalaya. Kolahoi Glacier's origin is below the cirques on the north flank of Kolahoi Peak. It is the main source of Lidder River, and its waters become the distributaries of Jhelum River.
