Trans Bhutan Trail

The Trans Bhutan Trail dates back to the 16th century when it connected Bhutanese fortresses called Dzongs, and served as the pilgrimage route for Buddhists in the east travelling to the most sacred sites in West Bhutan and Tibet. Today, it's also a social enterprise that works with local people to recover the trail. After 60 years, this renowned footpath linking Haa in West Bhutan with Trashigang in the east was recently opened. It's a game-changing, not-for-profit sustainable tourism initiative that showcases a unique piece of Bhutan's cultural heritage for the benefit of its people. A 403 km route, it is considered one of the world's greatest walks!
